Job Description:

Our client, a leading integrated IPP,  is seeking a Renewable Energy Developer who will play a pivotal part in advancing our portfolio of renewable energy projects, where innovation is at the forefront of the company’s mission. The ideal candidate will be a proactive self-starter capable of working independently and delivering accurate results.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of renewable energy projects from inception to Financial Close.
  • Conduct site identification, feasibility studies, and resource assessments.
  • Manage the permitting process, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and environmental standards. Permitting responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) managing EIA, and rezoning processes and securing Section 53,, WULA and SALA approvals.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to secure land rights, permits, and approvals.
  • Experience with managing project bid submissions for the purposes of REIPPPP or private off-take.
  • Manage internal costs and external consultants in accordance with development budgets.
  • Support during the Financial Close or sale of a project on environmental, legal and technical related due diligence queries.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including landowners, government departments, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
  • Represent company in meetings, conferences, and industry events to promote project development initiatives and foster partnerships.
  • Identify and assess project risks, including environmental, technical, regulatory, and financial factors.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimise potential impacts on project timelines and outcomes.
  • Coordinate project activities and timelines, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure project milestones are achieved on schedule.
  • Prepare regular progress reports, presentations, and updates for internal management and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor project delivery and performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in renewable energy project development, preferably within the solar, wind, or battery storage.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of successfully developing renewable energy projects from concept to Financial Close.
  • Strong understanding of project finance principles.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy technologies, industry trends, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proficiency in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and mapping-related software.
  • Software experience with PVSyst or equivalent would be an advantage.
  • Ability to travel both nationally and internationally, as required.

  • Draft and negotiate various contracts for renewable projects, participate in negotiations, covering a wide range of agreements.
  • Prepare legal documentation for tender responses and manage legal aspects post-award, including joint ventures and agreements.
  • Support business development, project development, construction, and asset management teams.
  • Analyze and interpret new country regulations.
  • Coordinate and oversee external law firms in line with company group policies.
  • Assist in incorporating and establishing project companies and affiliates in the country.
  • Monitor claims and litigation associated with the project portfolio, collaborating with relevant departments.
  • Contribute to legal reporting for the company, preparing documents for internal committees.
  • Develop training and guidelines for operational teams with law firms and headquarters support.
  • Assist in implementing and evolving the companies International contractual policy and standardizing documents.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Group corporate policies in the designated area of responsibility.
  • Establish a culture of compliance and integrity within the organization.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Minimum 5 to 6 years’ experience in private practice and inhouse with strong knowledge of the South African IPP Power and Renewable projects. Inhouse experience is a must.
  • Postgraduate degree in business law with ideally a double qualification (Civil and Common Law).
  • Experience in transversal project management desirable as well as in working within a multinational company.

Job Description:

Our client a renewable energy provider is seeking a Civil Engineer who will be responsible for the technical development and execution of renewable energy projects (solar PV and wind projects, including associated works).

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day support and project management (civil engineering) of relevant projects.
  • Providing civil engineering input and technical interface between the various work packages (finance, legal, technical, permitting, grid connection, etc.) necessary to fully develop the Projects.
  • Lead the development of technical civil engineering concepts and solutions of the projects, identifies optimal solutions from a technical, commercial and execution perspective at early stage of solar PV and wind plants, and interconnection works.
  • Ensure technical compliance with project documents.
  • Ensuring comprehensive and well drafted Employers Requirements/Specifications (and other contractual schedules) which are well integrated with the relevant EPC and O&M agreements.
  • Support during the procurement process of contractors to perform services under the relevant EPC and O&M agreements.
  • Technical support (civil engineering) during the process of preparation, negotiation, execution and conclusion of Project Agreements (including EPC, O&M and PPA).
  • Interfacing with owner’s engineer (OE), sponsors legal advisors and lenders legal and technical advisors (LLA & LTA), contractors, Eskom/Grid Operator, Lenders, etc. during financial close process and construction
  • Procure access to public infrastructure and provide technical input for financial close.
  • Meet deadlines, stay within budget, and liaise with BOP Contractor, subcontractors, and design consultants.
  • Prepare management presentations and periodic progress reports for company projects.
  • Such other duties that may be required from time to time within the general scope of the position.
  • Adapt to changing project demands, objectives, and priorities in the role description.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • 5+ years’ experience (renewable energy experience would be an advantage).
  • BEng/BSc/BS (Civil Engineering).
  • Awareness and understanding of civil balance of plant EPC and O&M agreements (PV solar and Wind projects).
  • Awareness and understanding of the relevant technical codes, regulations and standards relating to the development of renewable energy projects in South Arica.
  • Willingness to travel and spend time on site
