Job Description:

Our client, a mining company on the African continent, is currently looking for a Legal and Contracts Management Superintendent. In this role, you will be supporting the Legal Manager to ensure legal compliance of business operations, consistent definition, and management of all contracts. This generally includes oversight of the contract management process, as well as development of specific standards for bidding and submission, contract negotiations and document management. Strong experience will be required in this field, particularly as it relates to the mining industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Legal Manager in supervising and managing the operations of the Legal and Contracts Department.
  • Supporting legal due diligence of counterparties such as suppliers, services providers, and contractors.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial and other contracts, and develop standards for contract.
  • Supporting end-user departments with the implementation of contracts and monitoring performance of all parties to ensure compliance with terms.
  • Provide legal support as required to the management team and business units in mitigating legal related risks.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • An admitted legal practitioner/solicitor qualified in England or equivalent Common Law/Commonwealth jurisdiction with at least 2 years post qualification experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in law, quantity surveying, costs control, business or related field.
  • Has a minimum of 5 years' experience in legal and contract management within the mining or construction industry, business analysis or a related field.
  • Experience in administration of complex commercial contracts.
  • Specific mining experience is an advantage.
  • Legal expertise and experience in legislative compliance, commercial contracts, procurements and tenders.
  • Specific mining experience is an advantage.
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities, work efficiently under pressure and consistently meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbally and in writing) with the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Discreet and able to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Any international experience would be looked upon favourably.

The primary focus of this role will be overseeing and optimizing mine planning activities to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of resources to meet budget.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver long, medium, and short-term plans aligned with targets and budget cycles.
  • Collaborate with financial and geology departments to review and update cost models and Ore Reserve reports.
  • Ensure ongoing optimization of mining activities through design revisions, updates to block models, and reviews of financial and operating inputs.
  • Create blast designs optimized for ore recovery in both open pit and underground mines.
  • Identify and develop plans for operational issues affecting mine productivity.
  • Support, direct, and influence mine operations to achieve operational effectiveness and maintain safety standards.
  • Manage project design and delivery, supporting operational tasks and expansion of facilities and equipment.
  • Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly activities of the IMP team to ensure effective planning, cost minimization, and achievement of operating and capital budgets.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related field
  • 8 years’ experience across open cut and underground mining
  • Mine site experience across a variety of commodities and operational environments
  • Senior or Superintendent level experience leading a team
  • Software Packages proficiency such as: Deswik, Vulcan, Whittle
  • Expatriate experience
  • Strong relationship skills and interdepartmental experience

  • Trouble shooting and problem solving utilizing engineering expertise.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized tertiary institute.
  • 7 years previous experience in electrical roles within processing plant and diesel power generators in the mining sector, with at least 5 years’ experience in leadership position.
  • Well-versed in a range of mining equipment, VSD, HV/LV, power generation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Financial management experience.
  • Computer literate in MS Office and Projects.
  • Strong focus on health and safety standards and compliance.
  • Experience providing mentoring and training to multi-cultural teams as an expatriate in Africa.
