  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent is required

  • Demonstrated self-guiding and focused on improvements in business performance.
  • Strong computer knowledge and skills particular in Microsoft® Office applications. Pi data historian, MetSim, JK SimMet experience a plus.

The Metallurgist/Senior Metallurgist will align business and operational strategies, with the aim of maximising throughput and spodumene recovery whilst striving to optimise operating costs of process plant operation, against a range of KPI’s.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Duties whilst in Australia: Active participation in the establishment of a health and safety culture;
  • Comply with all health and safety policies relating to the office and contractor; worksites, and ensure a safe working environment;
  • Ensure all health, safety and environmental incidents are reported promptly;
  • Provide technical input to the Modular DMS Plant Project during the design and construction phases in South Africa;
  • Provide technical support to the Ore Sorter Study/Project, Flotation Studies and Main Processing Plant Design;
  • Provide other technical support and input to the Principal Metallurgist as required; and
  • Assume the Principal Metallurgist’s responsibilities when he is on leave
  • Mine site duties: Assist in providing and maintaining a safe work environment, implement and deliver compliance with HS&E plans, management systems and processes within the processing plant, including supporting operations such as maintenance and laboratory;
  • Active participation in the establishment of a health and safety culture;
  • Comply with all health and safety, environmental and regulatory policies relating to the project and ensure a safe working environment;
  • Ensure all health, safety and environmental incidents are reported promptly;
  • Developing operating methods and procedures related to operational, metallurgical and process engineering tasks, initially for the Modular DMS Plant and then for the Main Processing Plant;
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting to the operations team to achieve production targets;
  • Assisting in the operation and management of the metallurgical laboratory for test work and projects for continuous improvement and plant optimisation;
  • Assist in the development of training modules and training of locals;
  • Resolving medium to long term metallurgical issues associated with the operating plant, identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects;
  • Setting, monitoring and reporting on short term metallurgical parameters and control strategies, including setting addition rates, and controlling and monitoring usage of all concentrator reagent consumables;
  • Assist in the metallurgical accounting and reconciliation process from the crusher feed to trucked final concentrate;
  • Reviewing and improving standards and safe operating procedures for all metallurgical tasks (both metallurgical lab and field works);
  • Interacting closely with Principal Metallurgist to develop a consistent approach with respect to continuous improvement and ensure information flow between operations (Modular DMS and Main Plants) is well maintained; and
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings e.g. Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Must be Ghanaian citizen
  • Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering and/or equivalent qualification;
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • First Aid certificate and knowledge in emergency response procedures;
  • 5+ years in fixed plant processing;
  • Experience in hard rock processing desired but not essential;
  • Technical knowledge and experience in lab management processes, including lab sample management systems desired but not essential;
  • Sound technical knowledge of crushing and dense medium separation (DMS), milling and flotation circuits;
  • Experience in commissioning and delivering operational improvement projects;
  • Demonstrated track record of problem solving and solution implementation in a multi-discipline team-based environment;
  • Experience in process trending and simulation software;
  • Exceptional report writing skills;
  • Ability to work in remote and/or high temperature environmental conditions; and
  • Possess or demonstrate ability to acquire the relevant Minerals Commission statutory certifications.
  • Fluency in English and the ability to speak Akan or Fante

Our client is seeking an experienced Safety Officer to oversee all EHS requirements at their mines in the Western Cape, South Africa.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring employees have a clear understanding on working safely, following safety procedures and the importance thereof through on-going training and enforcement.
  • Coordinating incident and accident investigations, Environmental Health and Safety Systems and updating documents and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance to EHS legislation.
  • Implementing new group standard operating procedures and company operating procedures.
  • Managing contractor activities on site to ensure compliance to working instructions.
  • Ensure actions from risk assessments and profiles are implemented and risks are reduced and controlled.
  • Compiling monthly safety reports and quarterly risk control reports timeously.
  • Ensure that medical surveillance programs are implemented and that all necessary surveys are conducted and actions are followed through to completion.
  • Ensure that all required registers required by health and safety system are updated at the necessary intervals.
  • Assist in setting SHE standards and maintaining them to ensure Health and Safety Regulations are enforced .
  • Assist in conducting environmental, health and safety audits and SMAT/OSA audits and following through on necessary actions.
  • Co-ordinate and conduct training as required and ensure that training records are maintained and updated.
  • Scheduling and overseeing planned job observations at the required intervals specified and ensuring that recommendations made are implemented.
  • Co-ordinate health and safety committee meetings.

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Tertiary qualification in EHS.
  • SAMTRAC for mines or similar OHS certification.
  • 5+ years’ experience in all EHS aspects of operational mines.
  • Training in the Mine Health and Safety Act, Risk Prevention, Incident Investigation and EHS.
  • Knowledgeable on NEMWA ACT, National Environmental Management Act 
  • Strong verbal and written English and Afrikaans communication skills.
  • Well-versed in all applicable national legislation.
  • Computer literate in MS Office and Safety Systems.
  • Good negotiation and management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
