ABOUT THE MINING INDABA
Ever since its launch in 1994, the Mining Indaba has seen an evolution from a modest conference into the mining industry’s most eagerly anticipated event, attracting thousands of industry leaders and mining professionals worldwide. Dedicated exclusively to the prosperous capitalization and advancement of mining interests in Africa, the event offers a unique and broadening perspective on the African mining industry. The Mining Indaba serves as much more than just a platform for networking and connecting mining professionals with investors, it serves as a crucial landscape for key industry discussions, encouraging long-term economic and sustainable growth across the continent.
The Mining Indaba’s commitment extends beyond the event itself, actively supporting education, career development, sustainable practices, and other imperative causes in Africa. Every year, the impact of Mining Indaba resonates throughout the African Economy. Last year, for example, Mining Indaba’s contributions bolstered South Africa’s GDP by R248 million (with 80% sourced internationally), generating the equivalent of 323 full-time annual jobs in the country, and increasing national taxes by R30 million. This highlights the Mining Indaba’s pivotal role in not only shaping the trajectory of the African mining industry but also in driving positive economic outcomes and encouraging sustainable development in the region.
The Mining Indaba is an opportunity for the industry to address and identify both investment challenges and opportunities, emphasise sustainable practices, secure exclusive access to unexplored jurisdictions, and capitalize on emerging prospects. This highly anticipated event, scheduled for the 5th to 8th of February 2024 at the CTICC in Cape Town, will showcase the investment readiness of the African mining industry, drawing participation from over 8100 global mining executives spanning more than 100 countries. Among the attendees will be well over 900 investors, more than 1200 mining company executives, 100 senior government officials, and 70 Heads of State and Ministerial delegations, all coming together in a single venue to achieve positive change in the mining sector.
In commemoration of Mining Indaba’s 30th anniversary, the content programs will undergo a revitalized direction and purpose. The 2024 theme, “Embracing the power of positive disruption: A bold new future for African mining,” encapsulates the objective of initiating transformative change within Africa’s mining industry to position it as an astounding global competitor, crucial for driving sustainability on a global scale. This milestone celebration promises unique conversations and content delivery like never before.
