Job Description:


Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Owner’s Team for a major greenfield gold mining project. The successful candidate will provide senior mechanical engineering oversight across the full project lifecycle, from engineering and procurement through construction, commissioning and handover. The role will represent the Owner’s interests and ensure mechanical designs, equipment, installations and systems meet required technical, quality, safety, cost and schedule standards. The position will work closely with EPC/EPCM contractors, engineering consultants, suppliers and multidisciplinary project teams. Strong experience in mining, mineral processing or major heavy industrial capital projects is essential.


 


Responsibilities:


  • Provide technical oversight and review of mechanical engineering designs, drawings, specifications, equipment selections and project deliverables.
  • Review mechanical equipment including crushers, mills, conveyors, screens, pumps, piping, tanks, thickeners, filters and associated process-plant systems.
  • Support procurement through technical specifications, tender evaluations, vendor reviews, equipment inspections and Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Monitor mechanical construction and equipment installation to ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications and quality requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections and oversee equipment alignment, installation, testing, mechanical completion and defect resolution.
  • Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, performance testing, handover and close-out of mechanical systems.
  • Monitor mechanical scope, schedule, cost, technical risks, variations and contractor performance in conjunction with Project Controls.
  • Provide technical leadership to contractors and multidisciplinary teams while protecting the Owner’s technical, commercial and operational interests.


 


Requirements: Qualification and Skill


  • BEng/BSc/BTech/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant recognised mechanical engineering qualification.
  • Professional registration or eligibility for registration with a recognised engineering professional body.
  • Minimum 15 years’ relevant mechanical engineering experience, preferably across major mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial capital projects.
  • Demonstrated experience within an Owner’s Team, EPC, EPCM, engineering consultancy or major construction project environment.
  • Proven full project lifecycle experience covering engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning and handover.
  • Strong knowledge of mining/process-plant mechanical equipment including crushing, grinding, conveying, pumping, piping, tanks and materials handling systems.
  • Experience in technical bid evaluations, vendor management, equipment inspections, QA/QC, constructability, mechanical completion and commissioning.
  • Strong contractor management, stakeholder engagement, project controls, technical risk management and communication skills, with willingness to work in a remote project/site environment.
