Job Description:


 


An established mining operation in Gauteng is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the engineering function, with responsibility for maintenance strategy, asset reliability, statutory compliance and operational performance.


The successful candidate will provide technical and people leadership across the engineering function while driving safe, reliable and cost-effective operations.


 


Responsibilities:


  • Provide overall leadership and direction for engineering and maintenance activities across the operation, ensuring alignment with production and business objectives.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities associated with the 2.13.1 legal appointment, ensuring all engineering activities comply with statutory and company requirements.
  • Develop, implement and monitor engineering maintenance strategies aimed at improving equipment reliability, availability and asset performance.
  • Ensure engineering infrastructure, equipment and services are adequately maintained to support safe and efficient operational performance.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance, engineering risk management and statutory compliance across the engineering function.
  • Support the planning and execution of capital projects, equipment upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage engineering budgets, resources and expenditure while driving cost optimisation and improved asset lifecycle performance.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, operational excellence, quality management and continuous improvement within the department.
  • Lead, mentor and develop engineering teams to ensure high levels of technical capability, accountability and performance.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, service providers and other relevant external parties.


 


Requirements: Qualification and Skill


  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Engineering from a recognised institution.
  • A valid Government Certificate of Competency – Mines & Works is essential for the position.
  • Extensive engineering experience gained within a mining environment, with a strong background in maintenance and operational engineering.
  • Proven experience operating in an appointed 2.13.1 Engineer capacity within a mining operation.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering maintenance strategies, asset management, equipment reliability and operational risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering projects, capital planning, budgeting and cost-of-ownership considerations.
  • Sound working knowledge of applicable mining, engineering, occupational health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong leadership, people management and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to operate effectively across multiple functions.
  • ECSA registration would be advantageous.
  • Valid driver’s licence and the ability to meet the medical requirements of the mining environment.
