Do you know who the African Mining giants are?
I thought it would be a great idea for a blog post to talk about the numerous Mining GIANTS in Africa. Who are they, what are they currently up to and where in Africa do they operate are all aspects that will be addressed.
Considering how Africa’s Mining sector is BOOMING, it is no surprise that there are a good couple of mining companies operating throughout Africa. Some of these Mining giants originate from Africa, while others are external to the continent. At the moment, the African Mining giants are known to be BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Anglo American, Xstrata and Barrick.
These African Mining giants are mining Africa’s untapped mineral resources at a rapid paste and the combining value of these companies adds up to roughly US$335 billion.
Mining companies in Africa are well established and on the go all over the continent. Mining companies in Africa are both privately and government owned. So for example, the Democratic of Congo’s government owns 17% of the Tenke Fungurume Copper Mine situated in the centre of the country along with Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold, owning 58%. The most important aspect to running prosperous mining companies in Africa is keeping up to date with the latest developments on the continent. Such mining developments include all mining ventures within the continent – from grassroots, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, to bankable, active and operational stages. Mining companies in Africa even have access to mining operations’ histories, with dormant projects detailed in full.
