CA Mining would like our clients and candidates to become familiarized with our consultants. Today, we are introducing recruiter Mark Huber. To find out more about the man you might be working with, check out the Q & A we did with Mark Huber below!
Tell us a little about yourself?
I was born in the UK but have lived in SA since high school. Still fairly young at 27 years old, I have held managerial positions and done recruiting in some form since 2014, but solely within the mining industry for the last few years. I like to think of myself as a pro-active go-getter with strong people management skills. I am a firm believer of living life with no regrets and always enjoy new experiences.
Job title+ Areas of expertise/interest at CA Global?
I am a Senior Executive Recruitment Consultant for CA Mining. I am a Commercial, Financial & HSE Specialist within the mining industry throughout Africa. I take pride in my business development skills and bringing on top new clients.
Academic background?
I studied at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, where I graduated with a BCom Economics, Management and Legal Theory Degree
Fun fact about yourself?
I could survive off just making braais for every meal – I actually managed to do this for a week as a test!
Who is your role model and why?
Sounds cliché but my mother. She somehow never fails to see the best in people and will go so far out of her way for other people. It is a trait that is not too common these days and I really admire her for it.
Advice for clients/candidates?
Clients: Communication is key, job specs do not tell us the full story. We need to know more in order to find someone with the right ‘job fit’ as opposed to simply matching all the requirements.
Candidates: The more detail the better. Contrary to popular belief it will only assist in promoting you as the best fit for the role. We do really have your best interests at hand so please have patience!
Which country within Africa do you think will be the next hot spot and why?
Zimbabwe is definitely a country on the up. With the change in government and some recent massive foreign investments within the mining sector it shows a real sign of intent and there are a lot of untapped resources there. Promising signs indeed!
What is your outlook within your industry over the next 5 years?
Things are definitely improving. From the Mining Indaba earlier in the year the general atmosphere was much more positive than recent years which is fantastic having had a bad dip a number of years ago. This year was the inception of the Junior Mining Indaba which showed the potential in the industry. Within the next 5 years I foresee promising exploration projects turning into sustainable, productive mines across Africa. I definitely see gold on the up so West Africa will benefit massively.
CA Global is a big believer in Africa, why do YOU believe in Africa?
It is a large continent with stunning beauty and friendly and diverse people. There is a reason why Cape Town is the top tourist destination in the world! With commodity prices looking good I foresee exciting times ahead.
