Job Description:


To manage, coordinate, control and oversee the safe continuous and efficient supply of power and production of nitrogen, water, and compressed air to the smelter. The role includes operationalising strategy, monitoring and reporting on machine performance, energy efficiency, and the management of resources (technical specialists) to ensure that daily production targets are met.


 


Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement the Power production plant in alignment with the company’s strategy and DRC legislation and regulations
  • Consult on, supervise and implement Utility Plant Design, Construction & Commissioning
  • Function as a Smelter Utility Plant subject matter expert and company representative
  • Supervise the construction progress and oversee project quality to ensure milestones are met
  • Compile and implement single-unit and integrated commissioning plans
  • Organise sufficient resources to finalise trials and commissioning
  • Prepare the plant for production trials
  • Ensure the timely and systematic operation of the Utility Plant
  • Develop and implement the Utility plant operational plan and layout as part of the production strategy and plan
  • Design processes, techniques and operational metrics for the Utility plant
  • Establish a technology and process improvement management system
  • Produce Power, nitrogen, water and compressed air to meet the monthly and annual production targets
  • Oversee the production and product in an environmentally safe manner
  • Drive effective problem-solving and continuous improvement
  • Build working relationships across teams and functional lines to enhance work delivery, collaboration and innovation
  • Coordinate, monitor and supervise the performance of direct reports
  • Monitor costs or expenses within approved budget to achieve cost efficiencies and reduce waste
  • Support transformation in terms of people, automation/ digitisation and sustainability
  • Ensure implementation of the business Transformation plan in managed team
  • Integrate HSEQ into all work processes
  • Ensure complete, timeous and accurate reporting with appropriate levels of escalation to enable effective decision-making


 


Requirements: Qualification and Skill


  • Bachelor’s degree with major in electrical studies
  • 12 years' relevant smelter Utility plant experience with proven experience in building and commissioning a Utility plant
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a managerial position
  • Understanding Smelting methodologies specific to the Utility plant
  • Operating Utility plant machines or equipment
  • Production and Smelter Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ability to deal with emergencies in the plant
  • DRC Legislature knowledge
