Senior Geologist (Mining / Geology / Open – Pit / Modelling) – Sierra Leone

Our client, an international mining house is seeking a Senior Geologist who will provide leadership and coordination of resource modelling, resource estimation and geological management functions. The incumbent will be responsible for all grade control activities and provide grade control and geological models that compare with the resource block model.
Responsibilities:
- To provide technical expertise in resource estimation of iron deposits and accurate geology models of the deposits relevant features in accordance with industry and company standards.
- To develop junior staff in resource estimation and geology modelling procedures.
- To take ownership of the resource estimation and reporting processes, mentoring and development of technical personnel, projects and studies as required.
- To develop and maintain a reconciliation model that supports the strategic plan of the company.
- Identifies mineralization controls to appropriately model deposits and to assist Exploration new drill targets.
- Provide technical expertise in geostatistics and resource modelling to assist with development and training of the production and exploration teams.
- Assess, design and implement a production grade control process.
- Provide assistance to the operations on technical issues.
- Undertake and manage the advancement of minor operations projects and studies, as directed.
- Reconcile mine vs. mill and mine vs. reserve and resource figures.
- Prepare resource statements, reports and LOM plan document with input from the relevant contributors.
- Carry out all other duties that may reasonably be required.
- Daily, weekly and monthly report to Chief Geologist.
- Report anomalies detected during the inspections for immediate remediation.
- Ensure proper database consisting of drilling availability and utilization, consumables inventory, maintenance records etc, are developed.
- Ensure HSE requirements are communicated prior to work commencement, creating a mindset environment and culture of Zero Harm through health and safety communications and leadership.
- Lead / assist in the investigation of incidents, compile and submit incident reports.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Minimum 5 years progressive experience in Geology and resource estimation related areas.
- Females encouraged to apply in line with the company's diversification targets
- Degree in Geology, Earth Science or Geological Engineering.
- Professional affiliation that allows candidate to act as a qualified or competent person.
- Must have experience in Surpac or Leapfrog modeling software.
- Have a significant period of production experience, preferably in open cut environment.
- Have previous experience in geological modelling and resource estimation using advanced estimation and simulation techniques.
- Must be medically and mentally fit and be able to meet and maintain Company Medical Standards.
- Must possessed a valid driving license.
