Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Chief Safety Officer who will report directly to the General Manager and will serve as a member of the Operations & Technical Team.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and maintain an efficient Safety Management System and Risk Management programme as prescribed by the MHSA and OHSA.
• Ensure that the company (mine site and offices) have systems in place to manage health and safety compliance as required by law.
• Be involved in safety awareness campaigns at the mine, offices and in the community when need arises, safety talk topics.
• Organise the publicity and education of production safety, summarizing and promoting advanced experience in production safety in conjunction with relevant departments, and guiding part-time safety personnel to carry out their work.
• Identify gaps, maintain, participate, and initiate the drafting of documents like COP’s, procedures, and risk assessments.
• Be involved in induction programs on aspects of health and safety.
• Ensure all employees, contractors etc., have the relevant medicals conducted as per regulation and policy.
• Initiate incident and accident investigations, compile, and maintain safety statistics, report internally and compile external reports.
• Report incidents, accidents, and dangerous occurrences to the DMRE, in an event that those happen, in accordance with the MHSA.
• Participate in various production meetings, convey headquarters documents, and put forward suggestions and requirements on safety and environmental protection.
• Establish safety management network, guide the safety work of all departments, hold regular meetings of safety professionals, and strengthen safety foundation management.
• Offer administrative and statutory assistance to employees in an event of an accident/ incident, including but not limited to contacting the OMP, arranging transportation and accompanying the injured, initiating RMA insurance.
• Conduct inspections in the workplace to identify and enforce health and safety compliance.
• Develop the company's emergency rescue plan for safety production accidents, and organize drills, identify deficiencies in the drills, and organize rectification.
• Compiling reports and statistics to meet statutory requirements. Ensure timely statistics of various data of safety work and reporting of various safety management indicators.
• Oversee SHE reportees and ensure they deliver functionally and statutorily.
• Perform all such duties and exercise all such powers in relation to the business of the company as the employee usually performs daily and as may be assigned to you by the company.
• Comply with all directives given to you by the company and with all rules and regulations from time to time laid down by the company concerning its employees.
• Use your best endeavours properly to perform your duties whilst protecting and preserving the business interest, reputation and goodwill of the company and carry out your duties in a proper, loyal, and efficient manner.
• Manage and ensure all relevant software are available for use.
• Any other responsibility that can be reasonably expected in this role / function.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Chief Safety Officer in a mining environment (Open Cast or Under Ground Mines).
• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Safety Management (or equivalent qualification).
• Master’s Degree in Safety Management will be advantageous.
• SAMTRAC/COMSOC 3/NEBOSH advantageous.
• Shaft Sinking experience will be advantageous.
• Driver’s license (Code B).
