Job Description:

Our client, one of Africa’s leading renewable energy companies, is seeking a Business Development Manager, who will manage the business development activities in South Africa (and support the rest of Africa's business development when required) throughout the project development cycle, ensuring bankable projects. The incumbent will provide required input and support to other departments, including engineering, finance, project finance, ESG, corporate, and legal.  The ideal incumbent will have experience managing bilateral negotiations, bid preparation, and coordination in order to ensure competitive, complete, and compliant bids and commercial offers within the renewable energy industry.

Responsibilities:

• Develops an in-depth understanding of opportunities for utility-scale solar PV and wind projects in Africa in order to identify feasible projects
• Develops relationships and liaise with potential off-takers, authorities, regulators and utilities
• Identifies and nurtures relationships with local/regional developers, contractors, consultants and advisors to identify project opportunities
• Prepares budgets to secure the resources necessary to achieve project compliance
• Performs risk assessments and corresponding mitigation strategies as applicable related to the projects to inform business decisions
• Due diligence of prospective partners and projects for acquisition
• Keeps up to date with industry policy and legislation and assist in briefings to the wider team on issues affecting development and project viability
• Manages and reports on the tracking of project pipeline and of competitors in the market
• Engage with potential off takers in order to pursue private PPA opportunities
• Identify and manage bilateral PPA negotiation opportunities
• Identify and pursue tender opportunities for private PPAs
• Identifies tender opportunities in order to secure Power Purchase agreement
• Bid preparation and co-ordination in order to ensure compliant bids
• Support the project finance team during tender submissions, providing and assessing the technical inputs to the financial model
• Coordinate the EPC and O&M Contract negotiation and assisting in the management of the contractor RFP (procurement) process
• Ensure that grid connection requirements are assessed and studied in order to ensure Power Plant Grid connectivity and supports grid team with network connection applications and agreements including interfacing with utilities
• Leading due diligence of prospective wind and/or solar development project acquisitions to determine project feasibility

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• 3–5 year work experience in renewable Power Plant development
• BSC Electrical/Mechanical or Business School or similar qualification
• Good Understanding of renewable energy project development processes
