Job Description:


Our client, a mining house, is seeking an Assistant Engineering Manager, who will be responsible to direct and co-ordinate operational aspects through project life cycles to ensure optimum performance according to Life of Mine, business requirements, organisational objectives and sound engineering practice.


Responsibilities:


  • Ensure availability, reliability and cost optimisation of assets.
  • Ensure asset management alignment to business strategies.
  • Ensure effective life cycle management of assets through application of Physical Asset Management (PAM) principles and Reliability Centred Management (RCM) principles Advise on proper operation of parts, assemblies, systems, and equipment.
  • Establish an effective methodology of business operations, communications and control whereby statutory compliance and appropriate mitigation of risk is achieved.
  • Ensures compliance to sound engineering standards to quality.
  • Develop operating procedures to align with business objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), South African National Standards (SANS) and compliance with company specific Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) policies and procedures.
  • Create awareness and assume responsibility for SHE practices.
  • Initiate continuous improvement initiatives leading to cost optimisation opportunities whilst keeping abreast of new developments within specialist field.
  • Implement Theory of Constraints (TOC) principles to optimise process capability and asset management.
  • Liaise with other departments toward evaluating new technologies to improve process capabilities, product quality and throughput requirements.
  • Represent operations, maintenance and service departments in projects.
  • Provide expert technical and operational support to project teams and operational teams.
  • Oversee activities of reporting staff and strive toward achieving operational targets.
  • Perform fair and reasonable tasks related to job and working environment, at discretion of Manager.
  • Prepare and control section's annual budget by forecasting operational costs and monitor expenditure and cash flow on a regular basis.
  • Focus on advancements in specialist field in order to assess advancements and potential cost reduction.
  • Adhere to functional policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, end to end processes, tools, templates etc.
  • Assist in standardising, simplifying and speeding-up functional processes, eliminating duplication and bureaucracy.
  • Apply functional best practices, promote sharing of best practices and knowledge.
  • Coordinate commissioning, quality assurance processes as well as performance criteria testing
  • Conduct complex analysis of project systems and processes.
  • Provide technical inputs to the project team.
  • Provide inputs in designs, technical reviews, Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOPS) and other project related reviews
  • Evaluate and complete projects with minimum risk, within allocated timeframes and according to specified budgetary requirements.
  • Manage capital projects with regard to processes, technology and equipment.
  • Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations and practices.


Requirements: Qualification and Skill


  • B Tech/ BEng Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • Gov Cert of Competence: Engineering
  • Management Development Programme
  • 8 years’ Relevant plant, production, operational and maintenance experience; with Project Management, Design and development experience.
  • Psychometric Assessment
  • Certificate of Fitness
  • MHS Act Regulation 2.13.3.1 (AME)
  • Engineering Council of SA (PrEng) (Recommended/Desirable)
  • Ability to respond quickly to business needs/agility, flexibility, continuous learning, innovation and proven ability to experiment on creative business solutions.
