Introducing Aabida Davis who does our environmental recruitment for the Mining industry in Africa and recruits for roles such as Environmental Consultant, Hydrogeologist, Social Consultant and Risk Consultant etc. I have conducted an interview with our environmental recruitment consultant as a means to provide all of our mining job seekers with insight to the industry.
Tell us a bit about your background and how you got to where you are today? My passion has always been assisting people and ensuring that I make a positive, tangible impact within society. After matriculating, I decided to go and study Environmental and Geographical Sciences. Once I received my degree, I became an Environmental Consultant specialising in sustainability. After deciding to look for an opportunity which is more people orientated, I moved to CA Mining Recruitment where I now specialise in environmental recruitment.
What inspired you to get into recruitment? The opportunity to work directly with people in an industry appreciative of business acumen. The earning potential also inspired me to get into environmental recruitment.
What qualifications and experience did you think one needs to attain to become a professional within environmental recruitment? You don’t necessarily need any specific qualification or degree to work within the field of environmental recruitment, however it does help enhance your individual ‘marketability’. To be a professional within environmental recruitment however, you do need a number of soft skills such as the ability to communicate effectively, be able to work under pressure with a sense of urgency and have the ability to develop business relationships.
As the leading mining recruitment company in Africa, where do you see CA Mining over the next 5 years? I believe CA Mining will become the preferred recruitment organisation for both clients and employees globally.
What is the most challenging aspect within environmental recruitment? My biggest challenge would have to be time management as there always seems to be so much to do in such a short time.
How do you manage and overcome these challenges? Plan, plan, plan! 🙂
What has been the highlight of your career since working in the field of environmental recruitment? Speaking to some amazing candidates and clients with inspiring life stories.
What motivates you to work hard? The satisfaction received from placing the right candidate within the right company i.e. making both parties happy.
What is your outlook within the mining industry over the next 5 years and more specifically within the field of environmental recruitment? I believe the mining industry will slowly start to pick up, however I do not think it will reach previous success levels.
