I work in the Mining Industry.
What are your strengths?
Supervising;Planning;Organising;Good people skills.
What inspired you to get into this sort of industry?
All the challenges and meeting all different skills and people from all over the world and exchanging ideas.
What is the most challenging aspect within your field of work?
Getting to work along all different cultures and languages and the skills gap.
How do you manage and overcome these challenges?
I adapt very easy, then learn as much as possible about the culture and explain to the locals why I am there and what the plans forwards will be.
What has been the highlight of your career?
The successful commissioning and start up of the new processing plant in Sierra Leone, and implementing a new maintenance program.
If somebody starts as a trainee / beginner within your line of work, what could they earn in salary?
Approximately 20000 ZAR CTC P/M.
What can this person expect to earn (It doesn’t have to be an exact figure, a rough guide is sufficient) after 10 years of experience?
Approximately 55000 ZAR CTC P/M.
What advice can you offer people who are in the same industry as you?
Never ever give up, and share your knowledge while also learning new skills – no matter how insignificant and – keep up daily communication to your loved ones

Where in Africa have you worked before?
Sierra Leone; Mozambique and South Africa
As you know, numerous African countries are being invested in due to their rich minerals. Which country within Africa do you think will be the next hot spot and why?
DRC – It is a huge country and they are proving that peace is getting more and more a way of living

There is no future in SA – but the rest of Africa is proving to be the future
