Tell us a little about yourself-interests, background, age, work experience etc
I am 24 years old, South African, but born and raised in Jwaneng, a small mining town in southern Botswana. However I have spent most of the last 10 years in Cape Town, firstly in boarding school at SACS High School and then UCT and Varsity College to obtain my degree.
Before joining CA Mining I worked as a Brand Ambassador for various brands and then as Website Manager and Business Development Associate for a careers website, where I found and developed a passion for helping people realise and achieve their career goals (or milestones leading to those goals). This passion has lead to my current role as Recruitment Consultant.
Fun fact about yourself?
I have a sausage dog named Socrates; he’s a natural hunter and killed three snakes that he found at our home during his time in Botswana. He’s now retired in Somerset West.
Academic background-where+ what you studied
I obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Marketing Management at Varsity College in Cape Town.
Who is your role model and why?
Mashale Phumaphi, Managing Director of Shumba Energy, whose ambition, success and constant strategic outlook are elements I hope to emulate in my own career.
Job title+ Areas of expertise/interest at CA Global
I am a Recruitment Consultant in the Mining division of CA Global. The majority of the vacancies/roles I have worked on have required a medical background, (eg. doctors, nurses, health and safety officers). However I intend to work on all mining industry related positions in order to gain more experience in the industry before establishing a specialty.
Advice for candidates?
Don’t be afraid to explore an opportunity that a recruiter approaches you with, even if you are happily employed. At the very least it will grow your knowledge on a particular industry, and more importantly give you a better understanding of your worth within that industry.
Which country within Africa do you think will be the next hot spot and why?
The DRC, due to its vast wealth in terms of untapped mineral resources.
What is your outlook within your industry over the next 5 years?
My outlook for the mining industry over the next 5 years is generally positive with a steady rise in mining activity.
CA Global is a big believer in Africa, why do YOU believe in Africa?
I am a firm believer in taking pride in where you come from, because whether your experiences are positive or negative, they help shape you as a person. So as an African, I cannot believe in myself without believing in Africa’s capacity to produce greatness.
