What industry do you work in?

I work in the mining and heavy industrial sectors.

What are your strengths?

My sound apprenticeship training, vast experience and good technical qualifications make me an organised and efficient team player who easily adapts to challenges of the electrical engineering field.

What inspired you to get into this sort of industry?

The sectors technological challenges constantly afford me the opportunity to reach my full potential.

What is the most challenging aspect within your field of work?

Advances in electrical technology and its impact on production, maintaining best practices and the actual environment are definite challenges for me.

How do you manage and overcome these challenges?

I constantly learn, advance myself and seek appropriate advice to easily adapt to changes or advancement in technology.

What has been the highlight of your career?

Leading a team that achieved a stretched target of 98% plant availability in a modern high tech plant at Tati Nickel Mine (Botswana) at low costs.

If somebody starts as a trainee / beginner within your line of work, what could they earn in salary? (If you are not 100% sure please still provide an estimate)

Estimate of $500-1000 for 1st year apprentice.

What can this person expect to earn (It doesn’t have to be an exact figure, a rough guide is sufficient) after 10 years of experience?

An estimation of $6000 plus.

What advice can you offer people who are in the same industry as you?

Energy management should also play a key role in decisions related to production and engineering best practices to save our environment and reduce carbon footprints.

Where in Africa have you worked before?

I have worked in Zimbabwe and Botswana.

As you know, numerous African countries are being invested in due to their rich minerals. Which country within Africa do you think will be the next hot spot and why?

Mozambique. A wide range of vast deposits being discovered now.
